Next Stop…Abbeville!

“Take a detour.
Discover small towns
and friendly faces
that don’t grow along the highway.”
― Khang Kijarro Nguyen

Sometime since Covid took hold of our lives, I started a new personal photography project.  This project was to visit small towns and interesting places in the Carolinas, my home.  Keith  Carter’s project resulting in his book,

From Uncertain to Blue, led me to this project.

Since the beginning of my exploration of this new subject matter, I have visited and photographed at the UFO Welcome Center,  Stumphouse Tunnel, the Swan Iris Garden, and Cowpens.

Today, Randy and I chose Abbeville, SC as our destination.  There was no particular reason we chose Abbeville.  We simply looked at the map for a destination that was within three hour’s drive of our home that we never visited before.

We arrived about a half an hour after sunrise in the downtown area.  I found the historic, colorful buildings to be so charming.

The details that were found were amazing!

When we arrived, we found some streets closed to vehicles.  They were closed for a run in the early morning followed by a Christmas parade later in the morning.  We were able to experience some of the runners, but left before the parade started.

I was photographing this scene before the dinosaur family arrived.  I found the composition so much more interesting with their arrival.

The motto of Abbeville is “Pretty. Near. Perfect.”  We did not disagree.

I thoroughly enjoyed today’s exploration and cannot wait to visit our next destination in the Carolinas!
