Chasing Rhododendron at Roan Mountain State Park Part Two

Chasing Rhododendron at Roan Mountain State Park Part Two

Earlier this week, I wrote about my first official day of summer vacation spent chasing rhododendron at Roan Mountain State Park.  Although the day was a time to bond with my son, Jeremy, and experience Roan Mountain State Park during peak bloom of rhododendron, I came home from the day without any of the images I was hoping to create while there.

If you missed reading my post about that foggy day at Roan Mountain State Park,

Each year in early to mid June, I always make it a point to chase rhododendron at Roan Mountain State Park, Tennessee.  I am not alone in this endeavour.  When the rhododendron begin blooming on Roan Mountain, social media becomes flooded with images of fellow hikers and photographers working to enjoy and capture the beauty of the balds while covered with blooming rhododendron and flame azaleas.

Last Monday was my first official day of summer vacation.  I couldn’t think of any better way to spend that day than

Landsford Canal State Park, located in Catawba, SC, is a place that I put on my calendar to visit each year in late May or early June. This is the time that you will be able to see the Rocky Shoals Spider Lilies that bloom in the park.  Visitors come from near and far to see this spectacular display.

You can take a hiking path down to the viewing area for enjoying the lilies or you may choose to

I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with friends and fellow photographers this weekend.  I am a member of a wonderful organization, CNPA (Carolinas’ Nature Photographers Association).  Many photographers from our region of the organization met to photograph dragonflies at a local pond one morning this weekend.

It is always so much fun to meet up with those who share the same passion.  We met prior to 8:00 a.m.  As we found our spots around the pond

Yesterday was the last day of the 2015-2016 school year for my students.  Today is my last day of work before summer vacation.  This is the end of my twenty-ninth year teaching young people in public schools.

Each school year seems to pass more quickly

Grandfather Mountain Nature Photography Weekend

Grandfather Mountain Nature Photography Weekend

I just returned from one of my favorite weekend photography events.  I have attended Grandfather Mountain Nature Photography Weekend each year with the exception of one since I began this wonderful journey of nature photography.  This event takes place in late May or early June each year.

The weekend consists of presentations from talented and gifted nature photographers, opportunities to photograph with old friends and new friends, and participation in a fun contest that showcases the images created on the mountain during the weekend.

The speakers for this year’s event were

What a wonderful weekend my husband, Randy, and I had exploring and photographing in the Cherokee, NC area!  There is a great deal to explore in Cherokee.

Since I am always working to grow with my photography, I am currently taking a class.  I wanted to seek out things to photograph in Cherokee to fulfil the requirements of my class.  I was so drawn to the opportunities to photograph

The Arcanum

The Arcanum

One of the best decisions I have ever made for improving my work as a photographer was made in November of 2014.  It was at that time that I decided to join the Arcanum.  The Arcanum is a learning community for creatives.  It uses a Master and Apprentice approach for learning.  When you join the Arcanum, you choose from a variety of subjects to study such as
