Outer Banks (OBX), North Carolina

There is a treasure awaiting to be explored off the coast of North Carolina.  The Outer Banks are made up of a stretch of barrier islands and peninsulas that are approximately 130 miles long.  Different towns, with unique character, can be discovered as you explore the Outer Banks.

This summer, I was thrilled to be able to spend

Pool Views

“Like any child, I slid into myself perfectly fitted, as a diver meets her reflection in a pool. Her fingertips enter the fingertips on the water, her wrists slide up her arms. The diver wraps herself in her reflection wholly, sealing it at the toes, and wears it as she climbs rising from the pool, and ever after.”
― Annie Dillard, An American Childhood

In the summertime, I spend a lot of time at the pool.  I swim a mile a day most days in the summer.  I find that it is excellent exercise.  It also gives me an hour and fifteen minutes each day to disconnect from all technology and just take time to think.  I find it is so peaceful.

While visiting Florida, I decided to use my camera to take a closer look

St. Pete Beach, Florida

St. Pete Beach, Florida

A dear friend of mine, Tanji, and I  have been visiting each other for a week each summer for the past twenty-four years.  We started this tradition when we both moved away from Charleston, SC, where we began our friendship.

About eight years ago, we spent part of our time at St. Pete Beach with our children.  Visiting St. Pete Beach began an additional tradition as we now try to spend a couple of days there each time I visit my friend in Florida.

When we go to St. Pete Beach, there are two places we like to stay.  We always enjoy staying at

I recently returned from a visit to spend time with my brother, Paul, and his wife, Janet, in Florida.  While there, we took a couple of day trips.  Our first day trip was to Homosassa, Florida.

We made reservations prior to heading to Homosassa

Summer Sunflowers

Summer Sunflowers

Sunflowers remain one of my very favorite subjects to photograph.  It is absolutely impossible to be in a bad mood when standing in a field of sunflowers.  They are just happy flowers.

Each summer I like to spend as much time as I can photographing when the sunflowers are in bloom.  I am so fortunate to live about forty minutes away from some very large fields of sunflowers.  These fields are located in

Fourth of July

Fourth of July

I have lived in the same community, off and on, since I was ten years old.  I grew up in Tega Cay, South Carolina.  I left Tega Cay, after college, for my first real job.  I lived in Charleston, SC, for five years.  I then moved to Charlotte, NC, for almost ten years.

When my son, Jeremy, was in elementary school, I chose

Bicycles in Tarpon Springs

“Every time I see an adult on a bicycle, I no longer despair for the future of the human race.”
― H.G. Wells

I have visited Tarpon Springs many times while visiting friends and relatives in Florida.  I discovered something new on my most recent visit to Tarpon Springs.

As a photographer, I am always looking for something that will catch my eye to photograph.  It did not take long to find the thing that made me get my gear out of my bag.

Tarpon Springs

I still remember how much I enjoyed my first visit to Tarpon Springs.  Tarpon Springs is located in Pinellas County, Florida.  I was a child visiting my grandmother, my Meemaw, when first encountering this wonderful city.  When one enters this historic city, it is like taking a step back in time.

Visitors enjoy the sponge docks, boat cruises, shopping, and Greek food while visiting Tarpon Springs.

You can read about the history of Tarpon Springs here.

My most vivid memories from my first visit to Tarpon Springs are of
