Searching for Color

“He found himself wondering at times, especially in the autumn, about the wild lands, and strange visions of mountains that he had never seen came into his dreams.”
— J.R.R. Tolkien

The fall colors in the North Carolina mountains are peak in many places right now.  When the fall color is at peak  I can hear the mountains calling.

Sunday Randy, Maui, and I made a quick day trip to the Blue Ridge Parkway to see and photograph the colorful display.

Our drive took us through Brevard.  Since the morning was foggy, we decided to stop at Hooker Falls on our way.  It had rained heavily the evening before.  This caused a great deal of flow in the waterfall and puddles for shooting reflections.

On our way to the parkway, I  played around with long exposures while Randy drove.

Once on the Blue Ridge Parkway, there was so much beauty to behold.  Many were enjoying the gorgeous weather and spectacular colors of the fall leaves.

One of the highlights of our parkway experience was watching the clouds dance around Looking Glass Rock.

Before heading back home, we made one last stop at  Biltmore.  We wanted to visit Biltmore one more time before the driving pattern there changed.  While in the parking lot of the ticketing office, I found this wonderful tree.  While I was photographing it, magic happened.  One solitary leaf fell from the tree.

What an amazing day enjoying the glorious beauty of the color of fall in the mountains of North Carolina.  Colors are peak now.  I hope you will get out and enjoy the beauty!
