Fourth of July

Fourth of July

I have lived in the same community, off and on, since I was ten years old.  I grew up in Tega Cay, South Carolina.  I left Tega Cay, after college, for my first real job.  I lived in Charleston, SC, for five years.  I then moved to Charlotte, NC, for almost ten years.

When my son, Jeremy, was in elementary school, I chose

Landsford Canal State Park, located in Catawba, SC, is a place that I put on my calendar to visit each year in late May or early June. This is the time that you will be able to see the Rocky Shoals Spider Lilies that bloom in the park.  Visitors come from near and far to see this spectacular display.

You can take a hiking path down to the viewing area for enjoying the lilies or you may choose to

Revisiting Favorite Places

Revisiting Favorite Places

One of the things I enjoy the most is revisiting favorite photography spots.  Each time I visit, I add to my collection of images from that location.  I find that every time I stretch myself to try to walk away with something new from that location.

Find Your People

Find Your People

This year was my son, Jeremy’s, first year of college.  My dear friend, Jennifer, and I were discussing college as I prepared myself for sending Jeremy for his first year.  In our conversation, Jennifer described college as a time to “find your people”.  Jennifer and I have been friends since college.  She is “my people” from college.

New Year’s Trip to Charleston, SC (Part One)

My family and I had a trip planned to ring in the New Year.   Our original plans were to going skiing in West Virginia.  The trip was a Christmas present for my son and his girlfriend.  Although we were all set for skiing, mother nature had other plans.  It had been unseasonably warm in our part of the country for weeks leading up to New Year’s Eve.  On Christmas Day, we were contacted by the ski resort letting us know there would be no snow on the dates we were scheduled to be there.  We turned to look for a plan B trip.

South Carolina State Fair

Fun at the South Carolina State Fair

When autumn arrives, I know it is time to head to the carnivals and fairs.  I always make a point to head to the South Carolina State Fair in Columbia at least one day each year when it is in town.

The fair never disappoints with its wonderful array of subject matter.  There are colors and patterns at every turn.  I do try to challenge myself to try my hand at different subject matter each
