“The mountains are calling and I must go.”

-John Muir

I have always loved this quote from John Muir.  There is a place that seems to call to me, especially in the springtime.  That place is not the mountains.  The place that calls to me time and time again is Magnolia Plantation and Gardens, located in Charleston, South Carolina.

This spring, I made five trips to the garden to photograph while the azaleas were blooming.  My house is a little more than three hours from Magnolia.  This year I only spent one night in Charleston during my five trips.

Each time I visit the garden, I try to come away with something I have not photographed before.  Although I have photographed bridges at Magnolia, I have never photographed this bridge before.

This is the bridge you take if you are traveling to the observation tower in the gardens.

During my last visit, earlier this week, I spent time in the area of the garden where the bamboo is growing.  I have seen owls there on each of my five visits.  I enjoyed watching the owls on this day from within the bamboo.

Bamboo Forest

I spent a great deal of time trying to capture the beauty of a tree that is located near the cabins at Magnolia.

Flowering Tree

These gorgeous flowers covered the tree and the ground surrounding the tree.

I hope you have enjoyed seeing some of the spectacular sights that I was able to experience during my time at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens.  I hope you will check in next week when I will continue sharing things that kept me going back time and time again.

Spread the love
