Just Keep Looking

Whenever I go to a place to photograph, I want to find a unique way to show that place.  The internet is flooded with images.  We are bombarded with images daily.  I want to try to find a unique view of a well visited place.

This past week, during my Photo Tour, we revisited the majestic

Angel Oak, located on Johns Island.  This tree is such an incredible sight to behold.  It is also very difficult to photograph.  There are signs that surround the tree at its base.  There are also always many people there to enjoy this grand tree.  While photographing, these things must be considered as they can detract from the subject.

The first day I visited the tree, I used my newly purchased (used) camera that has been converted to take infrared images.  I wanted to use this camera to get something new for me.  I worked  hard to find a composition that was pleasing to me and eliminated the people and signs that surrounded the tree.

If you visit the Angel Oak, don’t miss the opportunity to eat at the Angel Oak Café, which is located within fifteen minutes from the tree.  Our group enjoyed the café so much, that many returned for a second visit within the week.

Before I left the Charleston area, I decided to make a last visit to the Angel Oak Tree.  I wanted to take another shot at capturing something that showed how I felt about this tree.

Shortly before I had to leave to meet others at the next destination, I found exactly what I was searching to find.  I found the incredible artist, Frank deLoach, creating his interpretation of the Angel Oak.

It was such an unexpected thrill to meet Frank, see him at work, and include him in an image of the Angel Oak Tree.  This was an image I felt really represented how people feel about this magnificent tree.

Please get to know Frank deLoach and his wonderful creations by visiting his Facebook page, artbyfrank.

So the next time you arrive at a place that is often visited and photographed, take your time.  If you just keep looking, you will find what you want to say about that special place!
