A Time of Rediscovery

“Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.”
― Oscar Wilde

Last week I had the pleasure of giving a presentation about the Power of Personal Photography Projects to the Capital City Camera Club.

During the question and answer portion of the presentation I was asked about my next photography project.  After giving this question some thought, I realize that my next photography project has already started.

Just before Mother’s Day, I took a couple of pictures in my studio (AKA Jeremy’s old bedroom).  Little did I realize that these pictures would lead me to my next project.

Here are the pictures I took that day.

Since that day, I have created several of these faceless self-portraits.

My Passion
My Passion

My life is in a state of many transitions right now.  In January, I retired from my position as a public school educator after 33 1/2 years.   I miss children!

My son, Jeremy, is creating his own life in Greenville, SC with his beautiful (inside and out) wife, Abi.  I am so incredibly proud of both of them.

These are just two examples of the many changes in my life right now.  I am taking time to look inward as I get to know myself at this point in my life and work to rediscover myself both as a person and as an artist.

As with all of my personal projects, I will allow this one to run its course.  I look forward to the journey and the learning it will present.

I’d love to hear about the projects you are working on right now.

I am a travel and fine art photographer living and working in the Carolinas. My camera has taken me to places I never would have experienced and to people I never would have met. Photography has truly changed my life! Using my blog, I hope to share the joys of both travel and photography.

  • Beautiful…. the “faceless” photos are awesome. I feel like I am on a new beginning… post covid. the past year was so much hunkering down, now I am looking forward to more family visits and getting out more. I’m experimenting with painting… and want to get my camera out more. Life is Good. Thank you for sharing. 🙂

    • Thank you, Lynn, for your kind words! Thank you, also, for sharing your creative journey and hopes for life after Covid! Experimentation is great!

  • Mary, these are beautiful and are filled with stories that words can not express. Thank you for sharing your card with me this morning. Your creativity is magical and just what this world needs.

    • Thank you, so much, Raissa! I am sad that you are leaving just as we are getting to know each other. I hope that we can stay connected when you move. Best to you as you write your next chapter!
