Winter in the Garden

“And when wind and winter harden
All the loveless land,
It will whisper of the garden,
You will understand.”
― Oscar Wilde

As I took my walk this morning, the world was filled with signs of spring.  It won’t be long until we are welcoming springtime in the Carolinas.

Before we do, I will continue to embrace the opportunities that winter presents.  One of these opportunities is looking for beauty in gardens during the winter months.

There truly is beauty everywhere you look if you take the time and care to look for it.  One of the benefits of visiting gardens in the winter is that you can explore for hours without being disturbed.  Most garden visitors will hold off on their visits until things begin blooming in the spring.

Here is some of the beauty I captured in Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden and at the Riverbanks Zoo & Garden in December and January.

Many gardens have greenhouses where beauty can be found all winter.  Of the following pictures, the first one was taken in a greenhouse.  All other images were taken outside in the gardens.

We have more than five weeks left before the first day of spring.

That leaves you plenty of time to find the beauty within the gardens in winter.

I am a travel and fine art photographer living and working in the Carolinas. My camera has taken me to places I never would have experienced and to people I never would have met. Photography has truly changed my life! Using my blog, I hope to share the joys of both travel and photography.
