Almost Spring

“I love spring anywhere, but if I could choose I would always greet it in a garden. ”

-Ruth Stout

Although the calendar does not show that it is spring, signs of spring are all bursting forth where I live in the Carolinas.  Daffodils are breaking through the surface of the soil, pink blossoms are covering the trees, and the birds are singing their welcome songs of spring.

One of my favorite places on Earth is Magnolia Plantation and Gardens located in Charleston, South Carolina.  It simply does not feel like spring until I have spent as many days as possible wandering through and photographing in the gardens.

Typically I wait until the azaleas begin to bloom.  This usually happens in late March to early April.

This past weekend, a very special family event took me to Charleston.  I figured I would spend a morning looking for early signs of spring along the garden paths.

Flowers and Ivy

Patches of pink were found throughout the garden.

Tree Reflection

I have never visited the garden when the flowering tulip trees were blooming.  I enjoyed a different look at a familiar location.

Along the Path

I am not sure if my schedule will allow me to get back to the garden to take in the show of the azaleas this year.

Blooms and Spanish Moss

My morning at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens showed me that spring was just around the corner.  It also let me see another version of the gardens that I love so much.

Until next time, Magnolia…
